15 Iranian fishermen held for entering Indian waters illegally

Mangaluru: Fifteen fishermen of Iranian origin have been remanded to judicial custody days after they were detained by Indian Coast Guard officials for illegally entering Indian waters.

Azam Ansari, Abubaker Ansari Miya, Moosa Dahadani, Shidh Baachu, Abdul Majeed, Majeed Rahmani, Mohammed Ishaque, Kareem, Mohammed Baloch, Baman, Naseer Badruj, Abdul Baapur, Anwar Baloch, Nabi Baksh and Yusuf Jahani – all of who did not possess any valid documentation – were arrested on October 21 from aboard two boats that were moving suspiciously in Indian territorial waters.

The boats were confiscated and being brought to safety when one of the boats developed a technical snag and sank in the sea.

On October 31, Indian Coast Guard Deputy Commandant, Kuldeep Sharma reported the matter to Mangaluru Police and registered a case in this regard before handing over the fishermen to cops for investigation.

The fishermen were produced in the court on Friday afternoon which sent them to judicial custody till November 14.
