Though the passengers are sensitized about this issue, the number of passengers repeating the offence repeatedly is a sad issue. The fine amount increases every successive year and yet the corporation has not been able to prevent the leak in income. In all the five years of fine collection, last year has seen the highest amount collected.
Year | Fine collected |
2013-14 | 3,46,200 |
2014-15 | 4,33,760 |
2015-16 | 4,81,640 |
2016-17 | 4,83,190 |
KSRTC is sensitizing passengers to not to travel without procuring tickets. The bus ticket itself mentions that the passenger must travel with the ticket and also it is displayed within the bus that every single passenger must travel with possession of the ticket. Additionally, the LCD’s at the bus stations and the speaker systems also spread awareness about this issue. Yet, the number of people travelling without possessing the ticket is still increasing which is ironic.

“Everyone should procure the ticket and travel. If the passengers travel’s without the ticket, a fine of ten times the ticket price is imposed. If not compliant, the passenger might be handed over to the police for further investigation. According to the law, if the conductor fails to give the ticket, it is the passengers responsibility to demand and procure the ticket,” informs Deepak Kumar, KSRTC Mangaluru Division Officer.
