21,445 fresh COVID-19 cases, 160 more deaths in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Thursday reported 21,445 fresh COVID cases pushing the total infection caseload to 36,31,638, with the number of people succumbing to the virus rising to 18,280 with 160 more deaths.

As many as 20,723 people have been cured of the infection since Wednesday, taking the total recoveries to 34,36,318 and the number of active cases in the state to 1,76,518, a state government release said.

In the last 24 hours, 1,45,582 samples were tested and the TPR was found to be 14.73 per cent. So far, 2,90,53,257 samples have been tested, it said. Some of the worst affected districts in the state are Malappuram (3300), Kozhikode (2534), Thrissur (2465), Ernakulam (2425), Palakkad (2168), Kollam (1339), Kannur (1338), Alappuzha (1238), Kottayam (1188) and Thiruvananthapuram (933).

Of the new cases, 111 are health workers, 73 had come from outside the state and 20,316 were infected through contact with the source of contact being not clear in 945 cases, the release said.

There are currently 4,83,172 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 4,54,689 are in home or institutional quarantine and 28,483 in hospitals.
