The guilty have been identified as Bhoja Kanchan, Ravi Kunder and Nagesh Kunder from Kalmady in Kodavoor village.

The then deputy superintendent of police, Annamalai, chanced to arrive at the spot during his patrol rounds. The guilty did not care for him too and attempted to damage the breath analyzer by pulling at it from the hands of the sub-inspector and obstructed police officials from carrying out their duty.
A complaint was later lodged in Malpe police station. The then police circle inspector, Srikanth K, investigated the case and filed charge sheet in the court.
Manjunath M S, the judge of the court, after conducting hearings and listening to evidences, supplemental evidence, arguments and counter arguments, came to the conclusion that the charges leveled against the accused were true.
He held them guilty under section 353 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and sentenced them to six months of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 each.
