3,312 people were managing the cooking work. On April 10th, they were suddenly sent on a temporary leave and presently the workers and their families are in a state of helplessness as they now neither have a job nor did they get their four months’ salary.
Previously, in accordance with the new direction from the government in January 2019, the service period was extended for 6 months excluding the 2 months of holiday. Although the officials assure that the work will be assigned after June, a few workers express doubt stating that the work is not guaranteed.

Last year, close to 4,500 cooks and helpers were directly appointed to the 2,438 BCM hostels in the state. Then, the workers who were being utilized through external contract where notified to be released from the work. This decision by the government attracted widespread outrage.
