The food safety department had banned the sale of the coconut oil which was earlier sold under the brand name Palakkad Afiya Coconut Oil due to the presence of adulterants. However, the same oil was now being repacked and sold in the market as Kerala Classic Agmark ‘certified product’.

The raid was conducted based on a definite tip-off. The raid led to the finding of 5,000 litres of oil packaged in 2-litre packs and have been sent to the laboratory for testing. Food safety assistant commissioner C A Janardhana led the team which conducted the flash raid at the warehouse belonging to Bekradha Mohammed.

The officials had started the investigation after packets containing the fake oil were found during a raid at a few shops in Kasaragod a few days back. Once the lab reports confirm that the oil id fake action will be initiated against the godown owner, informed the police.
