594 doctors died on the line of duty during India’s second Covid wave: IMA

New Delhi: A state-wise data put out by Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Wednesday revealed that as many as 594 doctors have died during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Delhi alone accounted for 107 doctor deaths followed by Bihar (96), and Uttar Pradesh (67). These three states together account for nearly 45 per cent of the doctors who died in the second wave.

The IMA had previously revealed that nearly 1,300 doctors have died on the line of duty fighting Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic, according to AFP.
