Earlier, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had announced in Lok Sabha that all toll checkpoints which fall within 60 kilometers of each other on the national highways will be closed within 3 months’ time.
Surprisingly, Karnataka has 19 such toll checkpoints in violation of the rule. This is the second-highest number among all states in India. Uttar Pradesh is at the top spot with 23.
The notable toll gates in Karnataka featured in the list include – Surathkal-Hejamady toll plaza (11km apart), Kulume Palya-Bengaluru (12 km apart), Talapady-Surathkal (32 km apart), Hejamady Gundmi (49 km apart), Holegadde-Belakeri (49km apart), Sasthan-Shirur (59km apart).
