 8,000 pilgrims to go to Haj from the state

Mangaluru: This year, 8,000 pilgrims from the state will be undertaking Haj pilgrimage from the state. On behalf of the state Haj committee, 750 pilgrims will be going on Haj from Mangaluru Haj camp and the flights for the same will be inaugurated at Bajpe Ansar Public School at 10:30 on Wednesday, July 17th.

The programme will be inaugurated by the state Haj and Wakf minister B Z Zumeer. Minister U T Khader will distribute passports to the first batch of Haj pilgrims. State Haj Committee president R Roshan Baig will show the green flag to the vehicle of the first bath. MLA Umanath Kotiyan will preside over the event.

A decade old haj camp

Mangaluru Haj centre came into existence on Oct 25 2009 and 6,000 pilgrims have undertaken haj through the committee in the last 9 years, informed committee president Y Mohamme Kunhi at the press conference.

On July 17th and 18th, pilgrims from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district an on July 19th, pilgrims from Chikkamangaluru, DK, Udupi and Kodagu will travel to Haj on 5 planes. The pilgrims shall return back after haj from Aug 31 to Sep 2 in 5 batches, he explained.
