'A day for women's safety': Mangaluru police urge people to make use of ERSS number

In the backdrop of the Mysuru gang rape case, city police officials conducted a programme ‘A day for women’s safety’ with the concept of ‘your call to 112 – visit by us to our place’ on Saturday, August 28.

The programme was unveiled by the chief guest, Olympian M R Poovamma.

The main aim of the campaign is to popularise the Emergency Response Support System number-122. Officials urged people to make use of the helpline number and from 8 am to 5 pm today, a team of over a hundred police officials including the police commissioner will be responding to public calls to ERSS.

Also, the commissioner and deputy commissioner will be visiting the areas from where calls were received. Over 20 emergency vehicles of the department will be put to use for this purpose.

City police commissioner, Shashi Kumar said that the police officials will reach the spot in fifteen minutes and five minutes within the city limits and respond to the problem. He further said that one can also draw the attention of the police towards the problems that are noticed by them.

He urged women to make use of the helpline number and seek help from the police officials.
