Mangaluru: Science has confirmed that having pets is good both physically and mentally. According to one theory pets boost our oxytocin levels. Also known as the “bonding hormone” or “cuddle chemical,” oxytocin enhances social skills, decreases blood pressure and heart rate, boosts immune function and raises tolerance for pain. It also lowers stress, anger and depression.

In this direction Animal Care Trust (ACT), Shakthinagar has been organising adoption camps for dogs and cats from many years. The unique feature of ACT’s camp is that desi puppies and kittens are put up for adoption. These animals have been rescued from horrific conditions by the ACT staff and its volunteers. Once rescued and then nurtured, ACT then puts them up for adoption in a pursuit to find forever homes.

One such adoption camp ‘Adopthon’ will be organised on February, 17, 2019 at Pet Pantry, Sai Arcade, Bejai.  The camp which will feature more than 20 puppies and 6 kittens will be held from morning 10.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.

“It has been ACT’s endeavour to put an end to the miseries of these voiceless and find them forever homes,” says Suma Nayak, Trustee of ACT.
