After completing two seasons, ‘Suvarna Tribhuja’ ventures out again

Malpe: The owner of the missing deep sea trawler ‘Suvarna Tribhuja’ identified as Chandrashekhar Kotiyan was earlier working as a labourer on another deep sea trawler named Durgamba Hoysala and had this new deep sea trawler created two years back on partnership. The new trawler had already completed two seasons and was now doing its third season. After conducting fishing from August to November, they had returned back to the port for minor repairs, done a pooja and ventured out back into the sea again.

Mr Kotiyan was well versed in the field of fishing. He had a unique skill of catching more fish by using as less diesel as possible, inform those who were close to him. A year back, he had built a new house. He was married 10 years back to Shyamala and has no kids. Of a family of 8 children, Mr Kotiyan was the third born.

Damodar Salian is Mr Kotiyan’s neighbor. Mr Salian was earlier working on another vessel and this year, joined Mr Kotiyan’s vessel.

Since the moment Damodar’s mother caught news of the missing vessel, she had gone bed-ridden. Mr Salian’s father Suvarna Tingalaya is suffering from ill-health and is limited to his bed. Of 6 children in the family, Damodar is the second born.

The other missing 5 fishermen are workers originally from Bhatkal, Kumta and Manki region.

“In the backdrop of getting information of the finding of two containers marked ST at Sindhudurg and Malwane in Maharashtra, which have been repainted and being used by the local fishermen, Chanfrashekhar’s brother Nityananda had gone along with the police to Maharashtra for inspection. Till now, there has been no further information available,” said Pramod Salian, Pavanjigudde, (brother of Damodar salian)
