Alert woman foils rape attempt by a stranger

Kapu: In an incident that happened at Katapadi Agrahara on the night of Tuesday, October 22, an unidentified man forcibly dragged away a lone woman walking by the road towards her home and attempted to rape her by taking her behind some bushes nearby.

The victim who suffered this traumatic experience is a local from Katapadi working at Udupi.

Reportedly, the woman was walking towards her home after work when a stranger approached her from behind and tightened his grip around her mouth to make sure she did not shout for help. He then dragged her near the bushes in a vacant spot next to the road where he tried to rape her.

Although having been overpowered, the woman tried her best to escape from his clutches and eventually, temporarily wriggling out of the attacker’s grip and screamed for help. Her terrified screams brought a woman living in a nearby house rushing to her rescue. The unidentified person realised he was compromised and made good his escape taking advantage of the dark conditions.

Soon, the locals went in search of the man but failed to find him. Meanwhile, Kaup police circle inspector, Mahesh Prasad reached the spot upon learning about the incident and conducted verification along with Kaup police sub-inspector, Rajashekhar B Saganur.

A case in this regard has been booked at Kapur police station and investigation is in progress.
