Presently, women are handling the top positions in the district as the deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, ZP CEO Sindhu Roopesh, SP Nisha James, ADC Vidya Kumari, district in-charge minister Dr Jayamala, MP Shobha Karandlaje and ZP vice president Sheela Shetty. Altogether there are 11 members in the ZP.
The women power is also seen at the top levels in various departments as TP president Nalini Pradeep Rao, women and children development department deputy director Gracy Gonsalves, horticulture department deputy director Bhuwaneshwari, tourism department assistant director Anita B R, district health officer Dr Rohini and ZP DRDA scheme director Nayan. Along with political and government departments, the women are shining in various other areas too.

Increase in literacy rate
The amount of female literacy is more in the district. As per the 2011 census, there is almost 86.24% literacy in the district of which 81.58% women are literates. In 2001, the literacy rate was at 75.19%. In 10 years, there is an increase of 4.66% in literacy rate. Even more increase is expected during the 2021 census.
New SP Nisha James
Udupi: In the backdrop of the upcoming election, several IPS officials have been transferred and Nisha James has been appointed as the new superintendent of Udupi police. Former SP Laxman Nimbargi has been transferred as the SP of wireless division, Bengaluru and he is yet to take charge there.
Nisha, who is originally from Kerala is a 2013 IPS batch officer. She has given her service as the SP of Chitradruga, Sagara and Raichur. Previously she was the commandant of the 4th battalion of KSRP Bengaluru.
Nimbaragi handled an important case
Laxman B Nimbargi who took charge as Udupi district SP on Jan 1st handled important cases in the district including the untimely death of Shiroor Seer, Hiriyadka Hussainabba murder case and Kota double murder case.
