Kodagu: Anupama Puchimada (41), the first-ever International Woman referee from Karnataka died of Covid-19 on Sunday, April 18

Anupama was the resident of  Bethu village, Napoklu in Kodagu district.

She was the first Indian Woman Hockey referee to officiate the Junior World Cup & Common Wealth Games and also the first Indian Woman referee to officiate in 50 International Hockey matches.

She was awarded the Best Umpire (Women) India by Sardar Gyan Singh Memorial Hockey Society in 2007. She was selected by the Federation International Hockey as one of the youngest umpires among ten men and women in the world.
