Below are few Ayurveda food rules to improve gut health.
- Make sure you eat only when you are hungry. This means that you eat only when your previous meal has been completely digested.
- Always eat in a calm and comfortable place. When you sit down to eat, make sure you are eating with as little distraction as possible. Say no to mobile, TV, laptops, etc.
- Eat the right amount of food. Don’t overeat. Eat only to point when you feel satisfied.
- Eat freshly cooked, warm meals. Try to avoid anything coming out straight from the fridge in order to preserve your digestive power (agni).
- Make sure that your meal is juicy or a little oily as this will facilitate digestion and improve nutrient absorption.
- Avoid incompatible food items together, like fruits and milk, fish and milk, etc.
- Use all your five senses when you eat.
- Appreciate the smell of your meal, the look of your plate, the texture of your food, the different flavours, and the sounds that you make when you eat.
- Don’t just swallow your food, take your time to chew.
- Eat at a regular time.
