Mangaluru: The water-level in the Netravathi river at Bantwal touched the 7.6 meter on Thursday morning as heavy rainfall continues to lash across the district. On August 5, the water level in Netravati stood at 7.5 meter but dropped in the evening. Later it again rose at night. With the danger level at 8.5 meter, the threat of a flood-like situation persists in Bantwal. The water-level at a vented dam in Belthangady taluk is posing danger to the Snanghatta in Dharmasthala. Last year too the structures at the snanghata had been damaged in the floods. Notably, this is the first time, following the onset of monsoon this year that the water level has risen to a dangerous level here. It maybe recalled that in 2019, the entire Pane Mangaluru village t was inundated by the swollen Netravati river. Several houses in Bantwal, including that of former Union Minister Janardhan Pujari, were inundated. Meanwhile IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in coastal regions of the state for next 3-4 days.
