The main waste-to-power plant, with an ability to produce power from 1,000 ton of waste in one day, will come up in Mavallipura for an expected cost of Rs 200 crore.
The BBMP, which as of now has the Mayor Fund from 2018-19 Budget, will look for 35% endowment from the Center and another 25% from the state government. Rest of the sum will be sourced through government grants.
Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, BBMP stated, “There are right now only three waste-to-power plants in the nation which are not being run effectively. Numerous organizations had shown interest to start the plant few years ago, however later every one of them backed out because of different reasons. That is the reason we have decided to start our own plant and we trust the initiative will be fruitful as the funding will be guaranteed by BBMP. We will soon call tenders for the plant.”
