Bengaluru: 297 illegal hoardings removed by BBMP

Bengaluru: As many as 297 illegal flexes/hoardings in 208 localities across the city were removed Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP).

In November 2019, the Karnataka High Court had directed the State government to issue necessary instructions empowering city corporations to take action against illegal advertisements, flexes, hoardings.

Following the direction, by the High court, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad had issued an order to zonal joint commissioners and zonal engineers to conduct a survey of illegal hoardings including the iron structures that are used for advertisements.

He had also asked the officials to prepare a list of such commercial hoardings at sub-division and ward levels along with tax and penalties imposed and paid, and FIRs registered, and submit it as soon as possible.

The civic body has now removed illegal flexes/hoardings in eight zones of Bengaluru City, a senior official said.

According to officials, Section 138 (removal of unauthorised advertisements) of the Karnataka municipal (KMC) Act is used for removal of illegal advertisements after issuing a show-cause notice to the persons or agencies concerned.
