Bengaluru: Annual groundnut fair ‘Kadalekai Parishe’ begins today

Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s annual groundnut fair ‘Kadalekai Parishe’  has begun today at Basavanagudi with COVID-19 norms in place.

The health department  had said that the vendors setting stalls at the three-day festival will have to carry a negative test report and should be vaccinated.

Also, over 700 personnel, marshals, mobile testing and vaccination units have been deployed at the temple premises. Awareness regarding test and vaccination will be created among people.  Covid-19 appropriate behaviour will be enforced.

Kadalekai Parishe, the annual groundnut fair started in 1537 AD and is held on the last Monday of Karthika Masa (month in Hindu calendar) near Dodda Ganesha, temple and the Bull Temple at Basavanagudi in Bangalore.

Farmers offer their first crop to Lord Basava and during this time, every year, 100,000 lamps are lit at the Bull temple.
