The victim has been identified as Nagaraju Y , a resident of Chudasandra, near Bellandur and an employee of a private firm.

It is said that Nagaraju met the fake policeman near a petrol bunk a few months ago when he was on his way to work.

The accused stopped his vehicle and checked the documents. The accused identified himself as Harish, a sub inspector attached with Parappana Agrahara police station.

Nagaraju and Harish exchanged mobile numbers. On April 19, Nagaraju met Harish at Haraluru and expressed his intention to purchase a used car. Harish promised to get him a seized car (MUV) for Rs 80,000.

Nagaraju gave him the money and went to the police quarters to take the car as he had instructed. However, when he visited the spot, he found no car (MUV) parked there and Harish went incommunicado.

Nagaraju could not file a complaint immediately as lockdown had begun. Police registered a case of cheating against Harish on September 28.
