Mangaluru: Railway authorities have announced the operation of special train services between SMVB Bengaluru and Mangaluru Central to accommodate the anticipated election day travel demand and to clear the extra rush during the summer season,
A press release said that Train No. 06553 SMVB Bengaluru – Mangaluru Central Special will leave SMVB Bengaluru at 18.00 hrs on April 25 (Thursday) and reach Mangaluru Central at 10.00 hrs, the next day.
Train No. 06554 Mangaluru Central – SMVB Bengaluru Special will leave Mangaluru Central at 12.00 hrs on April 26 (Friday) and reach SMVB Bengaluru at 03.00 hrs, the next day.
The coach composition for these special trains includes:
- 01 AC 2-Tier Coach,
- 04 AC 3-Tier Coaches,
- 08 Sleeper Class Coaches,
- 04 Second Class General Coaches, and
- 02 Second Class Luggage cum Brake Vans, designed to be Divyangjan friendly.
Voting will be held for 14 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats i.e. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi Chikmagalur, Hassan, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikkballapur and Kolar, on April 26.

Not really helpful’, say travellers
The special trains announced would take nearly 10 hours to reach from state capital to the coastal city. Many travellers said the prolonged journey time is not much helpful as the same journey could be covered in about 6-7 hours by bus.
