Bengaluru Police Seize Banned Currency Notes Worth Rs 96.9 Lakh; Arrest 7

Bengaluru: Bengaluru police arrested 7 persons and seized demonetized currency notes with the face value of Rs 96.9 lakh and two cars on Saturday in the state capital. The police on secret information searched two cars parked on MG Road on Friday and arrested 7 including a Kerala resident when they were trying to exchange banned currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.

Three Bengaluru residents, Shivaprasad B (50), Shivalingappa A (55), Ravikumar G (24), 2 Tumkur based youths Manjunath J (24), Basavaraj B (30) and Kerala resident Abdul Rehaman K (50) were arrested during the operation. The arrested charged under IPC Section 420, 41B of Criminal Procedure Code and 7 of the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017. The accused sent for14 day judicial custody by the court here.

This was the fourth seizure of demonetised currency notes in barely over a month in Bengaluru. Two men were arrested here with banned currency notes with the face value of Rs 1.28 crore on March 23, followed by four men with demonetized currency notes with the face value of Rs 4.98 crore on March 28, and 14 men were arrested in the state capital with banned currency notes of the face value of Rs 9.10 crore on April 2.
