Bengaluru: Son reunites his father with bike stolen 25 years ago

Bengaluru: A city-based techie worked tirelessly for 15 years to trace his father’s stolen bike and succeeded in it.

Arun, a techie working in Bengaluru, found his father’s stolen motorbike after 15 years of painstaking efforts, the Times of India reported.

N Srinivasan, a retired bank officer, bought a Royal Enfield bike in 1971 and was fond of it. He maintained the bike with the love and care it deserved. But, in the year 1996, the vehicle, which had been parked right in front of his house in Hebbal, got stolen all of a sudden, breaking the heart of the banker. He tried to find the bike but to no avail.

Srinivasan always reminisced about the beloved bike and had almost lost all hope of ever finding it. That is when his son Arun decided to find the bike for him.

Armed with an old black and white photograph taken in 1972, Arun searched for the bike with registration number MYH 1731. He visited garages that restored old bikes all across the state and even made inquiries with the police and regional transport offices. He kept looking for the bike from 2006 and finally got a breakthrough in 2021.

Digitization of RTO records gave him the first clues to the existence of his father’s bike. The techie found an active insurance policy on RTO’s Parivahan Seva portal in the name of a farmer from T Narasipura with the matching registration numbers. It was later found that The farmer bought the bike from a dealer who had bought it at a police auction for stolen and abandoned vehicles.

Arun convinced the farmer to sell the bike to him, got it restored, and presented the refurbished bike to its rightful owner, N Srinivasan.

Srinivasan was exuberant on finding his long-lost friend, the bike that had given him rides when he was very young.
