Bengaluru: Three arrested for selling 38-day-old baby for Rs 1.5 lakh

Bengaluru: Police officials have arrested three people for allegedly involving in a baby-selling racket. A 38-day-old baby boy had been born out of wedlock and was sold for Rs 1.5 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Tarannum Banu (38), Nishath Kousar (45), and K Sawood (51). Another accused Mubarak Pasha is still absconding. The incident came to light when police officials went to the spot near Agadi hospital after receiving a tip-off and found two people fighting on the road over the money-sharing issue.

On noticing the police, the man (Pasha) escaped and the police caught the woman later identified as Tarannum Babu, a resident of Adugodi.

She then revealed that her domestic help had given birth to a baby boy out of wedlock a few days ago. The boy’s father Mubarak Pasha had decided to sell the baby. They then along with Nishath Kousar struck a deal with a man named Sawood (51) who didn’t have kids.

He agreed to pay them Rs 1.5 lakh for the baby. He paid Rs 50,000 upfront and promised to pay the rest later.

A few days later, the baby developed a cold and Pasha convinced the baby’s mother that he will take the baby to the hospital while he had handed over the baby to Banu who handed it over to Sawood and received the amount.

However, Banu had not given a share to Pasha and he began quarrelling with her in front of Agadi hospital. The baby has now been rescued and police officials are tracking down the father, Mubarak Pasha, who is on the run.
