Bengaluru: The MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital here which has already reserved 340 beds for COVID-19 patients will be further increasing the numbers to 500 in the next two weeks.
This was assured to the Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan by the head of MS Ramaiah Group and Ramaiah Medical College's chief Srinivasa Murthy.
The DyCM was visiting the college where he had a meeting with the college's staff and was pleased to see from the boardroom the preparations in the COVID-19 wards through CCTV cameras.
Even before we made an appeal to them, Ramaiah Hospital came forward to reserve beds and treat COVID-19 patients. Many other private hospitals have still not done so even after repeated orders. The Hospital's commitment and service spirit should be appreciated, DyCM said.
The DyCM also responded to the Hospital's request that the number of ventilators must be increased from 5 to 25 and also ICU beds from 50 to 100 or 150.
The hospital administration also requested the government to supply the immunity-boosting injectible drug Remdesivir. Responding to this, DyCM said he would take immediate action to get injectible and other drugs as needed to the hospital.
Srinivasa Murthy stated that COVID-19 infects about 10 per cent of the total staff working at the Ramaiah Hospital, no matter what precautions are taken by the physicians and other staff. Yet our staff continues to treat patients with dedication. However, this has caused a shortage of medical and paramedical staff at the hospital.
The DyCM promised to provide assistance regarding this to the Hospital.
Senior officials of the hospital, members of the hospital's governing body, Health officials from BBMP were present during the visit.
