Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme was launched in 2018-19 by the central government with an aim to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in India. Considering the imbalance in the male-female sex-ratio in Dashina Kannada, Yadagiri, Haveri and Gadag, the governemt had selected these four districts to enjoy the benefit under this scheme.
In the 2019-20 term, the scheme had been changed slightly and every girl child born on the 1st of every month was eligible to receive Rs 1000 under the scheme. So far a sum of Rs 75,000 has been distributed to 75 baby girls born since April till now. The amount will be provided to the infant development officer of the respective taluks, who in turn will hand over the amount to the respective families.

Rs 2.40 lakh for 24 schools!
Rs 2.40 lakh has been provided to female students of 24 schools for achieving 100% result in SSLC in the academic year 2018-19 and a total amount of Rs 2.55 lakh will be provided to 51 female students of government college all over the state for securing highest marks in the exam.
Rs 1.40 lakh for 8 students
In 2019-20 term, a total of Rs 1.40 lakh was provided to 8 girl students of government as well as private colleges for scoring the highest marks in PUC.
Speaking on the issue, Deputy Director, Women and Children Development Department, Sundara Poojary said, “Rs 50 lakh has been set aside for every district and so far, Rs 25 lakh has been released in the first phase. The amount has been used for education, development and various other programmes concerning girl child.”
Yatish Mudayibettu, one of the beneficiaries father said, “The beneficiaries of the scheme should give more importance to the aim of the scheme, than the money.”
