The saffron party in their complaint alleged that the cash was distributed in Hubli. BJP also alleged that the cash is being distributed to influence the voters ahead of Kundgol and Chincholi legislative assembly by polls.

Shivakumar being a minister was aided by state government officials, BJP stated.

However, the party is yet to produce evidence to support the charges against the Congress leader.

Meanwhile, the EC has acknowledged the complaint but it remains to be seen whether culpability can be established in the absence of any concrete evidence.

“The BJP has been trying to destabilise this government from day one. They are not happy with the election results but the people of Karnataka are happy with our government,” Shivakumar said.

“People need not worry as we will safeguard this government and stick to the commitment made by the Congress president to them,” he added.
