Similar such blindwalks were held in 150 cities across six countries to mark World Sight Day, observed on October 10.

The event aims at raising awareness on eye donation by making the sighted realise the challenges faced by a visually challenged person.

A member of Project Vision informed that there are nearly 15 million blind people in India but only 69,000 people donated their eyes in the past year. In Karnataka, the figure is 5,561.

If awareness is raised among people regarding eye donation, several blind people will get their vision, he added.

The event was organised with the support of non-governmental organisations and institutions like Samarthanam, Rotary Abilities, St. Joseph’s College, and AIFO, among others.
