According to police, the accused juveniles were nabbed from Gujarat. The knives used in the attack, and cash worth Rs 2,100 were seized from them.

On April 17, the two had hired the cab using an App at around 3 AM. The duo asked the cabbie Dileep (28) to drive them to St John’s Hospital. When the cab reached the Aiyappa Swamy Temple, the duo tried mugging the cabbie by brandishing knives but the cabbie did not comply. When the plan failed, they stabbed Dileep 32 times and fled with the cash on his person.

Profusely bleeding, Dileep was later noticed by auto-rickshaw drivers who rushed him to St John’s Hospital. He is said to be out of danger.

The police who took up the investigation traced the mobile phone used by the suspect to hail the cab. It was found that the phone was on a moving train. The police teams moved in by road and air to nab the suspects and the duo was finally arrested from Bharuch in Gujarat.
