Bengaluru: Three persons have been arrested for selling second-hand vehicles by creating fake NOC certificates of banks and finance firms where a loan was outstanding against the vehicle.

Banashankari police said that they have arrested C Prabhakar (40) of Soladevanahalli, R Kiran (44) of Chamarajpet, and S Prakash alias Cheeti Prakash (33) of Mandya’s Nagamangala for their involvement in the crime.

As many as 7 vehicles worth Rs 90 lakhs were confiscated from them, police added.

According to police, Prabhakar and Prakash ran a business selling second-hand vehicles. They would contact vehicle owners who had outstanding vehicle loans and bought the vehicle by promising to pay the outstanding loan.

Prabhakar, who owns a Xerox shop, would then prepare fake NOC and loan agreement termination letters from the banks and finance companies. Using these fake documents, they sold the vehicles to gullible customers. To avoid being detected by the financial companies, they changed the number plates of the vehicles, police said.

The matter came to light when investigating a case filed about fake number plates on vehicles registered at the Banashankari police station.

Police said the accused confessed that they have been running the con for the past 5 years. Of the accused, Prabhakar had a prior run-in with the law and had been jailed in a fraud case in 2017.

Meanwhile, police said, they have written to the transport department for information on second-hand vehicles sold to find other vehicles fraudulent sold by the accused by using fake documents.
