B'luru Violence: Court grants conditional bail to accused Naveen

 

Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has granted conditional bail to Naveen, the main accused in the Bengaluru violence case.

Riots had erupted in Bengaluru’s KG Halli and DJ Halli after Naveen, nephew of Pulikeshinagar MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy posted derogatory content on Facebook and hurt the religious sentiments of a community.

Justice BA Patil directed Naveen to furnish a personal bond worth Rs 2 lac and two sureties for the same amount while granting him bail. Furthermore, he has been barred from leaving the jurisdiction of the trial court without seeking permission and mark his attendance on the first day of every month in the jurisdictional police station.

If there is any violation of the abovesaid conditions, the trial court can revoke his bail, the court observed.

Naveen’s advocate, in his argument, stated that the former had not shared the post with intention of creating unrest. The advocate also added that Naveen had immediately deleted the post upon knowing that it had led to riots.

Opposing the bail plea, special public prosecutor P Prasannakumar said that Naveen is a serial offender and has seven cases registered against him. He further expressed fear that Naveen faces threat to his life, citing a bounty declared on his head by a man from Uttar Pradesh and added that any untoward incident may disrupt peace again.

Justice Patil, however, contended that bail cannot be denied to the accused merely because he faces threat to his life.
