“We are also conducting state level KARNAPEX 2019, a philatelic exhibition from October 12 to 15. During the occasion, we are going to release a postage stamp on late George Fernandes to pay tribute to him. This is the first time; a state level exhibition is going to be held in the city. Earlier, it was successfully held in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Dharwad,” informed Mr Lobo.
“Today is an historic day as we have inaugurated the renovated philatelic bureau. This bureau is well executed. There are only 66 such bureaus in India and four in Karnataka, out of which, Mangaluru is one,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, post master general of south Karnataka zone, S Rajendra Kumar said, “This is a historic day for us. Mangaluru is a place where there are lots of philatelists and this will definitely encourage them. Even they can exhibit their collections in this bureau. There is a particular space earmarked for them.”

The logo of state level philately exhibition ‘KARNAPEX 2019’, designed by eminent environmentalist Dinesh Holla, was released on the occasion.
Dr Lobo addressed the gather later and said, “Mangaluru has good philately club. Philatelic bureau was set up in Mangaluru head post office in the year 1989. Customers can get the philatelic materials at their door steps by opening philatelic deposit accounts. Currently, 1066 PD accounts are available at Mangaluru philatelic bureau. Stamp is also known to be a cultural ambassador and very good revenue earning source.”
“State level philatelic exhibition is going to be held in the month of October. Anyone can take part in the exhibition, but the condition is that the participant should be a resident of Karnataka state,” said Dr Lobo.
“We are also planning to open additional 4.5 lakh accounts for students’ scholarship from the state government. We already have three lakh accounts with us for students’ scholarship. Except loans, all facilities are given in the post office,” he added.
