Mangaluru: Former Chairman of the State Minorities Commission, Anwar Manippady, clarified that BJP leader B.Y. Vijayendra’s claims about a Rs 150 crore offer from Congress were indeed true—but said it was a “test to gauge integrity.”

Addressing the media in Mangaluru, Manippady said, “Vijayendra mentioned Congress offering Rs 150 crore to settle a case and urged me to ‘take it and stay quiet.’ He was trying to test my patience. I was struggling at that time, even unable to pay hospital bills. Frustrated, I lashed out at him, but I later understood it was merely a test.”

Further explaining, Manippady said Vijayendra assured him not to drop the case but to tighten it instead. “Congress was afraid of my report; that’s why they made such offers. However, BJP had no role in pressuring me,” he added.

Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah responded to Manippady’s remarks, saying, “We reacted only because he himself admitted to receiving offers earlier.” Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar remarked that Manippady’s ‘U-turn’ was due to political pressure.
