Cattle trafficking case: Accused cop attempts suicide

Malpe: in the backdrop of having being arrested on the charges of being in cahoots with the accused in connection to cattle trafficking, the Coastal Security Police (CSP) staff Santosh Shetty (37) has been admitted into Manipal hospital after having attempted suicide. The accused attempted suicide after getting bail.

On Tuesday evening, the accused attempted suicide by consuming sleeping tablets in his car near Adiudupi. He sent a message regarding this to a policemen who brought the issue to the notice of the higher officials. Immediately the police rushed to the spot, found the accused lying in the car and admitted him into Manipal hospital, inform police sources.

Based on the information provided by the accused who were arrested for cattle trafficking, that the cops were providing information and cooperating with cattle theft, Santosh Shetty and Manki police station staff Vinod Gowda were arrested by Kota police. The accused were produced in Kundapur court which remanded them to judicial custody.

The accused were released on bail on Monday.
