Cauvery authority: Resolve technical issues first, says CM HDK

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that he is set up to name state’s representatives on the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) but not before the worries raised by him are addressed to a day after he sought for approval from the parliament to set up CWMA.

Tending to a press conference in Bengaluru, a day after meeting PM Narendra Modi on the Cauvery water issue, Kumaraswamy scrutinized the Center’s activity of informing the CWMA through a gazette before getting parliamentary approval. 

In its June 1 notification, the Water Resources Ministry had said it has encircled a plan constituting the Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) to give impact to the decision of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal as modified by the Supreme Court order. Kumaraswamy said the state will maintain the Supreme Court order identifying with the sharing of Cauvery water with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, and was even arranged to send the names of its nominees for the panel “however not before the technical issues raised by me are addressed”. 

After a meeting with Prime Minister Modi, he had said on Monday that the constitution of Cauvery Water Management Authority ought to be talked about in Parliament to address the technical angles related with the Supreme Court’s order a month ago.
