Central team reviews loss due to natural disaster

Udupi/Mangaluru/Kodagu: A Central governments team of senior officials visited Karkala and Kaup in Udupi district to review the extent of devastation caused by the recent natural disaster.  The team first visited government higher primary school, Kukkundur Jayantinagar, Karkala and gathered details of extensive damage caused to the school building.

Later the team visited Miyar, Mudar, Renjala and Edu villages and conducted review of damages caused. They also held a meeting with different department heads in Karkala guest house and visited Kuthyaru Gurme Bridge, old MBC road in Kaup and other areas.

The team consisted of central finance ministry assistant secretary Bharathendra Kumar Singh, rural development ministry assistant secretary Manik Chand and regional highway division’s Sadananda Babu. The team is on a two-day visit to the coast. On September 13th, the team will visit Mularpatna in Bantwal, Vittal Padnoor, Kaniyoor, Subramanya and Gundya before proceeding to Hassan.

Deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, Kundapur assistant commissioner, Bhoobalan, tahasildar, Mohammed Isaac, taluk panchayat executive officer, Dr Harsha, municipal council chief officer Mabel D’ Souza, PWD senior engineer Sunder and others were present. Karkala MLA, V Sunil Kumar, held discussions with the team.

The team visited Mangaluru to take stock of the devastation caused by the incessant rains here. They also held meeting in the office of the district deputy commissioner here and collected information. The meeting was also attended by district in charge minister U T Khader. 

Kodagu

A separate high level team of the Central government visited Kodagu on Wednesday and collected all details of the losses from deputy commissioner of the district, P Srividya. District in-charge minister Sa Ra Mahesh, MP Prathap Simha  and others who were present, gave details on the destruction wrought by the natural disaster.

The team collected details about loss to agricultural crops, damage to state and national highways and other connecting roads, damage to coffee, cardamom, coconut, areca nut etc and loss suffered by irrigation department, minor irrigation department, electricity department, loss to house property and other damages.
