Criticising the Central government for its indifference towards the farmers’, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday said that the government had betrayed the farmers by bringing in ‘black laws’ on September 17, 2020.

She was addressing party workers outside Rakabganj gurdwara, during the protest march organised by SAD to observe ‘black day’ on the completion of one year of the enactment of three farm laws.

“A number of farmers have died and many are still sitting at the state borders but this government (Centre) is indifferent. We will continue our fight until the three farm laws are repealed,” she said.

Farmers have been protesting since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. Farmer leaders and the Centre have held several rounds of talks but the impasse remains.
