CM Bommai sanctions Rs. 13 cr to tackle lumpy disease

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed the revenue department to release Rs. 13 crores towards procurement of vaccines and treatment for the lumpy disease.

In a meeting at his official residence on Friday, October 14, he released Rs. 2 crores towards the death of cattle due to the disease and released additional Rs. 5 crores towards the treatment. He directed the concerned officials to release a total of Rs. 8 crores towards vaccination.

CM Bommai said, “Already around 6.57 lakh cattle have been administered the vaccine. As per the Government of India (GoI) guidelines, if the disease is detected, then for all cattle within a 5 km radius of where the disease is detected, vaccines will be administered. The vaccines will be allotted as per the severity of disease in a district”.

“Isolate those cattle affected by the disease from the healthy ones. Towards the death of cattle, already Rs. 2 crores is sanctioned, out of which, Rs 46.15 lakhs ex-gratia is already provided. Further ex-gratia will be released soon”, he added.

He directed the secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department to provide 15 lakh doses from the company identified by GoI.

Meanwhile, CM Bommai said that the disease was noncontagious to humans and directed the officials to spread awareness of it.
