In a multilingual cultural event to be hosted in February by Beary Sahitya Akademi, presidents of five language academies – Tulu, Beary, Konkani, Arebhashe and Kodava – will release a joint statement and appeal to the State government.
The Tulu Sahitya Akademi’s delegation in association with various organizations has already met with State and Central government leaders on several occasions, to make Tulu language as one of the official language of Karnataka.
The Akademi has also appealed to add Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.

“The Tulu language has an ancient history, and the Academy is trying to incorporate Tulu into 8th Schedule of the Constitution. As a first step, we have already appealed to the chief minister to declare Tulu as a State language. All language academies’ presidents from coastal Karnataka will make a joint appeal during a program to be held in February and organised by Beary,” said Dayanand Kattalasar, president of Tulu Sahitya Akademi.
