Following torrential rains, multiple landslides had occurred at various spots along the ghat section in-between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road, effectively rendering the railway tracks beyond usage. A few of the landslides were quite big in size.
Mysuru divisional railway authorities have employed excavating machines which are working round the clock to restore the tracks. In a stretch of 56 kms of Hassan-Mangaluru section has been cleared and restoration work on remaining one massive landslide location is in progress. This huge landslide is estimated to be nearly 70,000 cu.mt of debris and is expected to consume 96 hours of round-the-clock work to be cleared.
