Comprehensive Kannada film policy soon to be unveiled

Bengaluru: Kannada and Culture minister Jayamala told the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday, July 3 that a thorough Kannada film policy aimed for encouraging Kannada and local dialect movies will be uncovered by the state government in a short period of time.

Jayamala, who is additionally in-charge for the Women and Child Welfare office, said the current Kannada film policy 2011 consolidated all aspects relating to the Kannada film industry.

In her answer to BJP member Tara Anuradha, the minister said the proposed film policy will cover film awards and subsidies to the local dialect films produced in the state other than giving a lift to the development of the Kannada film industry. 

The Kannada film policy will likewise address the high rates in multiplexes and different issues relating to the screening, distribution and production of movies, she said. 

Bringing up that the Bengaluru International Film Festival had won laurels from the film industry, she said the government proposed to hold film festivals in all district offices.

Jayamala said the state government was enthusiastic about taking care of various issues relating to the film business through the single window office course.
