When asked about his defeat in the elections, Gowda said that the JD(S) candidate in the constituency had promised to build temples in 277 villages and had laid foundations for that, just before the elections. In the fear that the JD(S) would stop the construction if it is not elected, the people had voted for the JD(S) candidate.
