Conjunctivitis cases on rise in Udupi

Udupi: Variations in weather conditions have caused a rise in cases of conjunctivitis, also referred as “pink eye” in the Udupi district.

Conjunctivitis is an extremely contagious eye inflammation commonly caused by a bacterial or viral infection or an allergic reaction. Although the infection does not spread through air, people who suffer from the condition may rub their eye and touch others causing the virus to spread.

Udupi witnessed 60 cases of conjunctivitis in November and 15 cases in December. In Kundapur, 80 cases in November and 117 cases in December. In Karkala, 124 cases in November and 395 cases in December.

However, Conjunctivitis cases have shown a steady decline in Dakshina Kannada.

Additionally, the district has seen an increase in cold and flu cases. In the month of November, 1,456 flu cases in Udupi taluk, 1,145 cases in Kundapur, and 1,087  cases in Karkala were reported.

Similarly, in the month of December, 324 cases in Udupi taluk, 224 cases in Kundapur and 191 flu cases in Karkala were reported.
