COVID-19: 546 under observation in Kasaragod

Kasaragod: Following the coronavirus spread around the state, about 546 residents of Kasaragod district are under observation out of which, 537 are home quarantined and 9 are in hospitals. Around 170 suspects samples have been sent for testing including 21 new suspects.

The result of the sample test of 66 is awaited and no new case is confirmed in the district.

The government identified 42 people who were in touch with youth who tested positive for COVID-19 and they are under observation.

Junior health inspectors and police officials are conducting mandatory inspections and screening at all border check posts in the districts. A special officer has been appointed at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) for the screening of passengers.

The Karnataka state government is taking foreign arrivals to Talapady in separate vehicles where their health check-up is conducted. People with COVID-19 symptoms are then moved to Kasaragod general hospital from there and passengers with no symptoms are taken to Kasaragod in KSRTC buses.

People who want to opt to travel in private vehicles should obtain a confirmation letter from the special counter at Talapady.

In a meeting, Kasaragod district deputy commissioner (DC) Dr. D Sajit Babu informed that about 776 awareness committees are operational in the district.

The DC also stated that if any of those who have been home quarantine leave their house violating the government orders, they must be immediately reported to the coronavirus control unit. The unit will monitor such people.

Additionally, isolation and quarantine arrangements for foreign arrivals are being made at Government Higher Secondary School at Kasargod and at Government Higher Secondary School, Balla near Kanhagad district hospital.
