What is community transmission?

A person who has not travelled but got the disease from someone who had is called local transmission, but, if there is a detailed examination of whom the infected person came in contact with and further the details of the person’s contact is traced, and that still doesn’t show anyone who has travelled, that is called community transmission.

However, website covidindia.org has said Maharashtra data confirms community transmission

Dr Randeep Guleria said, “Cases have sharply increased at some places and localised community spread has also been noticed in some areas, such as Mumbai. We are in between Stage 2 and 3.”

He further said that more data will be available after April 10 and after that it will be said whether the lockdown should be extended or not.

Although, it still isn’t clear whether the community transmission has begun or not, but the claims of lockdown extension can be a hint that we are close to this stage.
