Mangaluru: Unrelenting in its spread, the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown normal life out of gear. The worst impacted are the daily wage laborers and the homeless. With their livelihoods affected, some are struggling to afford a meal.

Sensing the need of the people who are homeless and starving during this time of crisis of COVID-19, the Management, Staff, and Alumni of St Agnes College collectively helped the migrant families at Neermarga and Vamanjoor villages. Ration kits consisting of essentials such as rice, vegetables, tea/coffee powder, groceries needed for everyday cooking were distributed by representatives of the College.

Under the guidance of Mr. Ganesh Naik, Asst. Engineer, Karnataka Urban Water Supply, presently nodal officer, for COVID-19, Sr Jyothsna, Sr Vinora, Sr Roopa, Sr Evet Priya, Dr Nagesh, Dr Nancy Vaz and Sr Jeswina visited the villages and distributed the ration kits to the needy. Besides, a few poor families visited the college campus to collect the ration kits.

The food distribution drive was an initiative taken up Sr Jeswina AC, Principal, St Agnes College. She informed the staff and the alumni to support her in this service activity of providing food for the homeless and migrant workers.

“It is overwhelming to know the generosity of the staff and alumni who have contributed generously to feed these people who were waiting helplessly for someone to provide food for them. We are happy and grateful that we got an opportunity to serve humanity in a small way that is possible. The response both from the staff and alumni was overwhelming. They contributed generously and from the amount received, the college was able to provide ration kits to all these families,” says Dr Sr Jeswina.
