Covid: DK health department on alert; International travelers being monitored

Mangaluru: In view of the increasing coronavirus cases in several countries amid the arrival of the new variant, the Dakshina health department has decided to monitor those who arrive at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) from high-risk nations.

As per the Union government’s guidelines passengers arriving from high-risk nations are already being tested at the airports. About 2 percent of passengers arriving from foreign nations are being subjected to tests and the positive samples are being sent for Genome sequencing. So far no COVID-positive cases have been reported at MIA.

Isolation ward at Wenlock hospital?

The isolation ward is being set up at the district Wenlock hospital. Those with the symptoms of COVID will be shifted to this ward and treatment will be provided if anyone tests positive.

The Karnataka government has mandated wearing masks at movie theatres, schools, colleges, bars, pubs, restaurants, and other public places.

The government has also asked people to organize public gatherings in open spaces and avoid indoors as much as possible.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar urged the general public to be cautious and follow Covid-19 guidelines.

Ravi Kumar also said that all must compulsorily wear masks in places like pubs, bars, restaurants, cinema halls, offices, buses, trains, etc.
