Crack down on haphazard parking: T.R. Suresh

Mangaluru:  The police action is not limited to owners of marriage halls who permit haphazard parking along the roadside, said city police commissioner T.R. Suresh at the weekly phone-in programme at the police commissioner’s office on Friday, July 20th.

“Recently, we found that lot of vehicles were parked outside marriage halls that led to traffic congestion on public roads. We have not restricted ourselves only to take action against vehicles parked outside marriage halls, but also those parked on the roads,” he said.

Mr. Suresh said that sanctioned that the city police will book cases against owners of high-rise commercial buildings who have illegally converted parking lots into commercial activity spaces thus forcing customers to park vehicles on the road.

A few callers from Jeppu, Baikampady and Surathkal gave complaints on haphazard road side parking in their respective areas which was giving rise to traffic congestion.  Another caller from Katipalla complained on non provision of tickets at concession in private buses and the lack of seats for senior citizens in buses.

A caller from Kodikal said that four city buses from State Bank miss late evening trips while two from Kankanady miss Sunday trips to Kodikal. A caller from Balmatta complained unchecked smoking in public place, particularly near the bus shelter in the area. Buses parked by an educational institution near Hotel Ballal was causing inconvenience to the residents in the area, complained a caller from Moodbidri.

Every Friday, phone-in programme is held from 10-11 and persons can voice their grievances directly with the police commissioner by calling 0824-2220801 and 0824-2220830.
