Daily commuters from Kasaragod seek exemption from RT-PCR test to enter DK

 

Mangaluru: A delegation of Sahayathri, a forum of daily commuters from Dakshina Kannada on Thursday met district deputy commissioner K V Rajendra seeking exemption from the mandatory RT-PCR test for daily commuters from Kasaragod district to enter Dakshina Kannada.

As per the guidelines issued by the DK district administration, inter-state travellers need to carry the Covid-19 negative report.

In the memorandum submitted to the DC, the delegation said that thousands of people, including doctors, paramedical staff, employees, students and businessmen from Kasaragod depend on Dakshina Kannada and travel here regularly. “As Karnataka government has made the RT-PCR test mandatory for inter-state commuters, people are travelling with the Covid-19 negative report for the past 45 days. Commuters, including students, are required to undergo RT-PCR tests four times a month, which is causing a lot of inconveniences,” Sahayathri members Kishor Yenankudlu, Shivakrishna Niduvaje and Ganesh Bhat Varanasi explained.

Responding to their request, DC Rajendra has said that a decision will be taken based on the test positivity rate (TPR) in Kasaragod district.

The delegation has said that the number of active cases in Kasargod and Manjeshwar taluks is 390 and 94 respectively. There has been a reduction in TPR and active Covid cases in both the taluks, the delegation added.

Dakshina Kannada district reported 94 cases of Covid-19 with a test positivity rate of 1% on Thursday.
